So I have a theory
on why Matt is a crotchety meanie.
I could be wrong. He might have no reason to be a crotchety meanie, but I feel like this is a plausible reason.
DUDE HE LOST HIS TWIN SISTER WHEN HE WAS TEN YEARS OLD.

He resents Shane because she became the “heir apparent” upon Heather’s death.
And that’s kind of a thing for him
He’s all like
Dude my twin was supposed to be that but she died horribly and tragically and (for me) traumatically and now you’re just movin’ right on in and I’m totes not cool with this BOO YOU WHORE
and so he resents shane because lol little sister and she “took heather’s place” and that’s kind of just a constant reminder of the twin sister that would have been alpha.
